Blue Elephant Dance

Keeping your distance, avoiding physical contact while retaining a sense of closeness? Dancer In-Jung Jun and musician Simon Rummel stick to the rules that have been imposed upon us by the current coronavirus pandemic. In this improvised performance, they communicate with each other by means of vibrations. Both of them move their bodies, both of them produce sounds: the dancer using a bara, a Korean cymbal, the musician with a piano in tune with the bara. The vibrations spread throughout the space and become like touches. The performers put themselves and the audience into a trance and conjure a sense of community that goes beyond physical connection.
